For hundreds of years, hops have been used as the 'seasoning' in Beer. The qualities associated with hops, to the Home Brewer, are a magical quality. They impart a bitterness to offset the sweetness of the malts. They give flavour and aroma to the finished Beer, with combinations that are unique.
Hops fall into three main categories, Aroma Hops, Dual Purpose Hops and Coppering Hops. They do what it says on the label. Aroma Hops impart the aromatic nose and flavour to the Beer, and can be used for late additions and dry hopping, whilst the Coppering Hops impart the bitterness to offset the sweetness from the Malts. Dual Purpose hops are those Hops that can be used for both Aroma and Coppering, although, on the whole, they are not suited for Dry Hopping. Dry hopping gives that extra edge to the beer, that in our opinion, is well worth the extra expense of the Hops.
Our hops are packaged in vacuum sealed bags and are available in 100g weights. They are also supplied with a separate, re-sealable, grip bag for storage once the vacuum bag has been opened. Its always best to store your hops in a cool, dark place, ideally in a fridge for short term storage, or the freezer for longer term storage.
